Getting New Orleans Streets in Gear

As the recipient of our 2011 Nonprofit Design Grant, Bike Easy was open to change in a big way: a new name, a new brand, increased effectiveness. After years of 'getting by,' Bike Easy is now recognized as the go-to organization for all bike related issues in New Orleans and the metro area. They've formed important and productive relationships with local and regional government agencies as well as private sector supporters, and have increased the size and effectiveness of their staff.

The biggest way Bike Easy has grown since receiving the grant has been our internal perspective. We're now mission driven; we know what we want and where we're going.

The first step in our process was renaming the organization to Bike Easy. We also developed Brand Strategy, and Brand Positioning supporting the vision of the board and the arrival of the organization's first executive director.

We have continued working with Bike Easy and in 2012 collaborated to design and deliver the first ever comprehensive bike map for the city of New Orleans.

We created a playful yet professional identity that helps Bike Easy tell their story through outreach, advocacy before government agencies, and collaboration with diverse local organizations. The new identity was applied to everything from business cards to valet tickets.

Bike Easy's new brand has a playful edge and color palette. Line 58 also developed a tag line, typography, and fresh photography as well as a sub-brand for the Bicycle Second Line: their primary annual event.

The new Bike Easy website responds to visitor's devices delivering appropriate layouts to smartphones, iPads and other tablets, and desktop computers. Built with a custom Content Management System, the website showcases projects and events while always encouraging New Orleanians to get involved.

Bicycle shops in the area received banners to help spread the word about Bike Easy. Other materials included membership and sponsorship forms and communications, policy report template, and a much needed bike map for New Orleans.

Branded reports increase the professionalism and effectiveness of Bike Easy's advocacy and outreach.

About the Client

Bike Easy is on a mission to make bicycle riding in New Orleans easy, safe, and fun. Formed in 2003, Bike Easy's staff and army of supporters have changed the nature of biking in the Big Easy.
